Sol Rolingher, QC, senior partner at Duncan Craig LLP welcomed The Honourable Donald S. Ethell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta who was this year’s Laurel Awards Keynote Speaker. Sol Rolingher stated, “The Laurel Awards were developed to mark Duncan Craig’s centenary in 1994 and the firm’s ongoing commitment to community service. 2010 marks the 16th Anniversary of the Laurel Awards, which annually recognizes the achievements of not-for-profit organizations in the Greater Edmonton Area.” Laurel Awards nominees’ achievements are evaluated on the basis of their successful innovation and creativity, regardless of size or overall budget. Mr. Rolingher added, “In a time when tough economic conditions do not favour not-for-profits, they are under greater stress and tend to experience greater demands for their services. We are honoured to show support for these groups for what they are doing in and for our community and to recognize their very important contributions to the quality of life of all those who live in this wonderful city of ours.” This year’s winners are: GOLD: Zebra Child Protection Centre for their program “A Kids Holiday Party” SILVER: YESS – Youth Emergency Service Society for their program “The Armoury Youth Centre , or AYC” BRONZE: HIV Edmonton for their program “Bodymapping: Living with X”
